Appointment to the First Chief Digital Officer of the Wissenschaftsstadt
CRISP spokesperson Prof. Michael Waidner, head of the Fraunhofer SIT and professor at the TU Darmstadt in the profile sector CYSEC, will become First Chief Digital Officer (CDO) of Darmstadt. The announcement was made by the Oberbürgermeister der Wissenschaftsstadt Jochen Partsch. Prof. Waidner advises the city how the possibilities of the digitalisation can be used for the well-being of the citizens and companies . He will be supported by the city´s CDO-Team which is headed by Joachim Fröhlich the IT director of the city of Darmstadt.
The tasks of a municipal CDO consists of the positioning of the city as a forerunner of the intelligent digitalisation. „We do not want a digitalisation out of pure euphoria, but we want a digitalisation which offers the citizens a concrete added value, which gives companies new environmentally compatible business models and enables Darmstadt to reach its municipal goals. Digital stories of success can only be made possible if one considers the risks and the fears of the people. With his experience in business and research and big professional expertise regarding cybersecurity and data protection Michael Waidner is the ideal choice for this position in the Wissenschaftsstadt Darmstadt und I am happy, that we were able to win him for this task“, said Oberbürgermeister Jochen Partsch.
„As researcher and scientist I already see Darmstadt fairly well positioned in many areas of digitalisation. Examples herefore, are the digitally based Bicycle rental opportunities or the digital participation possibilities for citizens. An independent study of the Wirtschaftswoche has even made us to the innovative capital of Germany and pointed out the specific potential which Darmstadt has. But this should be used much stronger like in education or health care. Through numerous scientific institutions, the universities and thetechnology affine companies, but also the cultural institutions of the city I see great chances for Darmstadt by means of Digitalisierung. So that the projects which the city has developed togehter with the digital participants can be implemented it naturally needs the active participation of the citizens, the digital enthusiasts but also the digital sceptics, because they prevent us from blind, technological excitement and give our Ideas the necessary ground contact.“
