Cybersecurity for the Trains of Tomorrow

23/03/2017

Joint Project of Fraunhofer SIT, CYSEC [at] TU Darmstadt, DB Netz AG und SYSGO AG

The digital transformation introduces many companies with chances even in the rail sector: Through the digitalisation of  Leit- und Sicherungstechnik (LST) many processes can be improved and the transportation performance can be increased. The use of standarized data nets however make the security technology vulnerble for potential hach attacks. The new research project „Hardwarebasierte Sicherheitsplattform für Eisenbahn Leit- und Sicherungstechnik“ – in short HASELNUSS – develops a security system, which defends from attacks and also includes the long life cycle ofthe trains.

The new solution was practically tested in the Testzentrum of the DB Netz AG and in the Eisenbahnbetriebsfeld Darmstadt for the first time.
In this joint project HASELNUSS the DB Netz AG, the Fraunhofer SIT, SYSGO AG and TU Darmstadt with the profile sector CYSEC are working on the Eisenbahn- Leit- und Sicherungstechnik of tomorrow. The partners are developing a hardware based  IT security platform, which suites the special demands of trains, like the compliance of specific real-time requirements or the proof of  fulfilment of functional security.
