Announcement of the 7th German Prize for IT-Security 2018
„Made in Germany“ stands for quality - and this is also represented by the IT-Security in Germany. Promoting innovations in the highly specialized field of IT-Security is the aim of the German Prize for IT-Security, which is now awarded for the 7th time by the Horst Görtz Foundation.

In 2014 TU Darmstadt and genau started the research project quantum computer-resistant signature techniques for practical use. After three years work in the area of the so called Hash-based signatures they are now able to protect product-updates with post-quantum sigantures thanks to a successful copertation. Within a closing event the project "squareUP" was presented at it-sa in Nuremberg.

The two new Privacy Friendly Apps "Lineal" and "Maßband" are enabling the measuring of objects with a Smartphone or Tablet. The Lineal-App shows a ruler, optional a protractor, at the edge of the device. Thus objects, that are smaller than the device, can be measured. While doing so the Lineal-App does not need any authorization. The Privacy Friendly Werwolf is an Android implementation of the "Werewolf" card game. Players, who are connected to the same WiFi, can play together without needing the role cards.

Yesterdas evening Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Johannes Buchmann was awarded the Konrad-Zuse-Medal for achievements in computer science on behalf of the German Informatics Society (Gesellschaft für Informatik e.V.). Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Liggesmeyer, President of the German Informatics Society: „Mit Johannes Buchmann ehrt die Gesellschaft für Informatik einen herausragenden Wissenschaftler, der die Entwicklung der Cybersicherheitsforschung in Deutschland und weltweit maßgeblich geprägt hat.“

Today the structural construction for the new building for IT-Security Research at TU Darmstadt began with a cornerstone ceremony. The center at Kantplatz, costing almost 18.4 million Euro, is funded by the Federation, the State (Hessen) and the TU Darmstadt. In the future the Profile Area Cybersecurity (CYSEC) at TU Darmstadt is going to do their research there.
