Abstrakt	The new German eID card (nPA) represents a new milestone for electronic identity documents in Europe regarding security and versatility. Unfortunately, the citizens lack trust in the nPA and there are only few nPA compliant applications available. This paper presents the Open eCard project together with the therein developed Open eCard App, which aim at improving this situation. The Open eCard project is a joint effort by experts from academia and industry with the goal to provide an open-source and platform independent implementation of the eCard-API framework. The Open eCard App is an implementation of the respective client software.
