Situational Pictures on IT Security

Recommendations for action from groundbreaking studies

ATHENE's scientifically based analyses and studies help political parties to strengthen their digital infrastructures, thus contributing to the protection of democratic processes.
For public administrations at local, state and federal levels, ATHENE develops innovative governance frameworks that contribute to the systematic improvement of IT security levels.
ATHENE's extensive research reveals worrying trends: despite increasing investment, the damage caused by cyber-attacks is growing exponentially, while many organisations and companies remain inadequately prepared for security incidents. Recommendations from ATHENE's researchers form the essential basis for the development of sustainable security strategies that can effectively counter the growing threat landscape posed by increasingly complex cyber-attacks.

IT Security in research institutions

ATHENE research area Science Shield
Research institutions are increasingly the target of cyber-attacks which, if successful, can cause months of downtime, especially when IT systems are operated in a decentralised manner without uniform security management. ATHENE analyses the security situation at German universities and develops protection concepts, including modern security architectures and practical training for IT staff.

AIGIS Project - Cybersicherheit für Forschungseinrichtungen
In the BMBF-funded AIGIS project, ATHENE supports the establishment of real-world laboratories for modern cyber security at the Goethe University Frankfurt and the Fraunhofer Institute SIT in Darmstadt. ATHENE is developing reference architectures based on the zero-trust principle to prevent the undetected spread of cyber-attacks in research institutions while ensuring data protection.
