Eurographics Gold Medal 2018 goes to Prof. Dieter W. Fellner
Great Honor for CRISP-Speaker of Fraunhofer IGD
For his extraordinary carrier and merits for the advancements of computer graphics, Prof. Dr. techn. Dieter W. Fellner, Fraunhofer IGD, was honored and distinguished. However the international research organization for computer graphics didn't award Fellner the gold medal just for his research: He was also honored for the leading position he has been holding for years at the Eurographics Association.
Since October 2006 Fellner is a professor for informatics at TU Darmstadt and the institute director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD. The native Austrian is still connected to his place of study Graz, where he absolved his study of technical mathematics (diplom) in 1981, his doctorate in 1984 and his habilitation in 1988. In 2005 he founded the Institute of Computer Graphics and Knowledge Visualisation and leads it to this day. Furthermore since 2008 he is managing director of the Fraunhofer Austria Research GmbH and a board member of Fraunhofer Singapore that was founded 2017.
The Eurographics Gold Medal is the highest honor for those for those members of the association that support the aims of Eurographics in an outstanding way, weather through groundbreaking research findings, excellent teaching or the successful exertion of a function within Eurographics.
