18/09/2018

Presentation of the department PEASEC at the TU Darmstadt | Lecture on the evaluation of dual use risks in software development

At this year's autumn conference of the Research Alliance for Science, Disarmament and International Security (FONAS), Prof. Christian Reuter, CYSEC [at] TU Darmstadt, presented the subject area "Science and Technology for Peace and Security." Thea Riebe, PhD student in the field PEASEC and research associate of the research group KontiKat at the University of Siegen, explained in their presentation a research project for the evaluation of dual-use risks in software development and was also elected as a member of the FONAS board of directors.

The aim of Fonas is to promote scientific work on issues of disarmament, international security and international peace using mathematical, natural or technological methods, taking account of interdisciplinary references, in research, teaching and public mediation of insights. For this purpose, regular technical discussions are held on questions of technical peace and conflict research, arms control and international security for interested citizens and politicians in Berlin.

FONAS was born out of a collaboration of interdisciplinary research groups founded since 1988 at the universities of Bochum, Darmstadt, Hamburg and Kiel. Beyond the original groups, scientists from other institutions are involved, for example: From Forschungszentrum Jülich or from the peace research institutes in Frankfurt and Hamburg. Since June 2018, the research group PEASEC of the TU Darmstadt has been one of the main working groups of the research network.
