Cyber criminals have research institutions in their sights: after successful attacks, universities and non-university institutions are often paralysed for months. It is not uncommon for departments or faculties to manage their own IT - without centralised management and, more importantly, centralised security monitoring. Modern security architectures and practical training for IT teams offer effective protection against this growing threat. ATHENE assesses security in the German university landscape and develops strategies and solutions to improve cyber security in research institutions.
